No fewer than 37 people reportedly killed by gunfire close to Governor Suswam’s home in Benue during invasion by suspected herdsmen and fighters of the Jukun militia.
Two places suffered the attacks on March 6, 2014, Thursday. They are the Moon district in Kwande Local Government extreme, of Benue North-East, and the others in Anyibe, Tse-Dzwegwe, Ayilamo and Tse-Iboor in the Logo Local Government, South.
The home town of Governor Gabriel Suswam, Anyiin in Logo Local Government, could have been captured if security forces did not step in.
Over a hundred houses were set ablaze in the Moon district of Kwande LGA. Some victims escaped to Makurdi and are staying with their relatives. They informed the newsmen that they saw some of their family members, numbering about 16, who were shot and killed on site.
According to SaharaReporters, over 21 people have been killed by an undetermined number of Fulani mercenaries who were acting in concert with some Jukun thugs from the neighbouring Takum (Kashimbila).
The youth in Jato-Aka has reportedly and arrested and handed over to the local police two soldiers (one of the is in the picture above), who were allegedly helping the invaders – Fulani and Jukun fighters.
It is believed that the armed men were backed by Nigerian soldiers, who were shooting at unarmed residents while another team armed men continued burning down homes.
Pandemonium continued later that day as soldiers had aggressively insisted that their colleagues must be freed and handed over back to them.
Governor Gabriel Suswam confirmed he was aware of the attacks. However, he insisted his government was doing everything within its powers to solve the crisis.
It would be recalled that three weeks ago in the North-West senatorial district, the village of the Tor Tiv, Alfred Akawe Torkula were attacked, as armed men razed the villages in mass fires while scores more were killed.
